Meet our members
Tubist Andrew Jones holds the DMA from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, a Masters in Performance from the University of Arkansas, and Bachelors Degrees in Music Education and Performance from the University of North Texas. His primary teachers include Timothy J. Northcut, Dr. Benjamin Pierce, Donald C. Little, and Ed Jones.
Jones is currently tubist with the 5K Brass Quintet, traveling with the group to Sweden during the summer of 2018 to participate in the Stockholm Chamber Brass Academy. He has played with the Dayton Opera, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, the Blue Ash/Montgomery Symphony, the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra, the North Texas Wind Symphony, and the Legacy Brass Quintet. He has been a finalist in the International Tuba Euphonium Association’s Arnold Jacobs Mock Orchestral Tuba Competition, and the International Women's Brass Conference Brass Orchestral Excerpts Competition. Jones has also been a semi-finalist in the student and artist division of the Leonard Falcone International Tuba and Euphonium Solo Competition. Jones teaches tuba and euphonium at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. He also teaches tuba and euphonium for the band programs of Milford, West Clermont, Walnut Hills (Cincinnati), and Mason, Ohio.
Lucy Smith has won competitions for her horn playing in both the US and the UK. She has recently moved to Philadelphia to continue her doctorate in horn performance at Temple University with Randy Gardner. Lucy is passionate about psychology and raising awareness for underfunded women's health issues. Despite living 3000 miles away from her home in England, Lucy makes sure every afternoon includes a good cup of tea and a piece of cake.
A native of Houston, Texas, Dylan received his Bachelor's in Music from Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas before relocating to Ohio. After earning his Master's in Music Performance from Miami University, Dylan has been freelancing in southwest Ohio. Aside from playing with 5KBrass, Dylan is a regular member of the Fillmore Philharmonic Brass Band and is a brass instructor at Sharp School of Music. In his free time, Dylan enjoys playing disc golf and trying to cuddle with his cats, Stella and Oliver.
John Landis, 3rd Prize Winner of the 2015 National Trumpet Competition - Graduate Division, is about to begin his career as a musician in the U.S. Navy Fleet Bands. John has performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Bay-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, and the Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra. He holds a Master of Music degree from Temple University and a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from Ohio Wesleyan University. Further studies were undertaken at Miami University. John enjoys hiking, throwing the frisbee, running, and learning about craft coffee brewing.
Kyle Malesevich graduated from CCM with his Masters in 2016 and is currently freelancing and teaching in Cincinnati. Originally from Wisconsin, Kyle has performed across the Midwest with ensembles including Milwaukee Festival Brass, Richmond Symphony, Muncie Symphony, and Ohio Light Opera. Since joining 5KBrass, Kyle hopes to work with up and coming composers to bring new chamber music to various venues and audiences. Outside of trombone, Kyle enjoys hiking, canoeing, tennis, and expanding his knowledge of cheeses and brats.
